Château-Fuissé Saint-Véran 2023

Château-Fuissé Saint-Véran is a white Burgundy from the far south of the Mâconnais, made by one of the appellation's most familiar neighbours.

Saint-Véran was created in 1971 from vineyards lying on either side of Pouilly-Fuissé, in the stretch of country where Burgundy runs down towards Beaujolais. The appellation takes its name from the village of Saint-Vérand but drops the final letter, and its soils shift from limestone in the north to a lighter, sandier mix further south. Chardonnay is the only grape permitted. Château-Fuissé, based in the neighbouring village of Fuissé and run by the Vincent family, is among the established names of the district and brings the same approach here as to its senior wines, with gentle pressing and maturation in a mix of tank and barrel.

Serve at around 11 degrees as an aperitif or alongside white fish, chicken or a goat's cheese; it is best drunk within a few years.
