Château Haut-Bailly HB de Haut-Bailly carries the name of one of the leading estates of Pessac-Léognan, the red wine district on the gravel soils immediately south of Bordeaux.

Pessac-Léognan was carved out of the northern Graves in 1987 and holds almost all of the region's classified properties, Haut-Bailly among them. The estate's vineyard sits on a low gravel rise and is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and it has belonged since 1998 to the family of the American banker Robert G. Wilmers, who rebuilt the cellars and kept the long-serving winemaking team in place. This is the most approachable label in the house range, built from the same Cabernet-led blend and the same cellar practice but framed for earlier drinking rather than long keeping.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast meats, casseroles or hard cheeses, decanting briefly if the bottle is young.
