Description
Description
Château Hosanna is a very small Pomerol property on the highest part of the appellation's gravel and clay plateau, a short walk from Pétrus.
Hosanna was created in 1999, when the Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix of Libourne bought Château Certan-Giraud, kept only the best parcels under a new name and sold the remainder on. The vineyard is tiny even by the standards of Pomerol and sits where gravel mixes with clay over an iron-rich subsoil, the combination behind the appellation's finest sites. Merlot dominates the planting, with a meaningful share of Cabernet Franc grown on the gravel. Pomerol has never been classified, so reputation rests entirely on site and record, and rebuilding a property around its best land placed Hosanna quickly among the more sought-after names of the plateau.
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with duck, beef or mushroom dishes, decanting younger bottles an hour or so ahead; it will cellar for fifteen years or more.
