Château La Fleur-de-Gay 2022

Château La Fleur-de-Gay is a Pomerol made entirely from Merlot, drawn from a narrow selection of parcels on the appellation's clay plateau.

The wine comes from the same family holding as Château La Croix de Gay, on the northern part of the Pomerol plateau, and was created as a separate top selection rather than as an ordinary second label; it is bottled only in small quantities. Pomerol's reputation rests on Merlot planted over clay with an iron-rich subsoil known locally as crasse de fer, and a wine of this kind, taken from a small group of parcels and matured in a high proportion of new French oak, is the most concentrated expression of that idea. The appellation has never been classified, so estates are judged on their sites and on consistency.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with beef, duck or game, decanting while young; it will cellar for a decade or more.
