Château La Fleur-Gazin 2016

Château La Fleur-Gazin is a small Pomerol estate lying between Château Gazin and Château La Fleur-Pétrus, in the heart of the appellation.

The vineyard runs to only a few hectares and sits on the plateau where clay and gravel overlie the iron-rich subsoil that Pomerol growers call crasse de fer. It has long been farmed and distributed by the Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix of Libourne, the merchant house that did more than any other to build the modern reputation of Pomerol and that has a hand in a number of the appellation's best-known properties. Merlot dominates the planting with Cabernet Franc alongside, and the wine is made in the Moueix manner, hand harvested and matured in French oak. Pomerol has no classification, so quality here is a matter of site and stewardship.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast poultry, veal or mushroom dishes, decanting while young; it will keep for a decade.
