Château La Fleur-Pétrus 2016

Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a Pomerol estate on the plateau between Pétrus and Lafleur, two of the most celebrated addresses in Bordeaux.

The property has belonged to the Moueix family since 1952 and has grown over the decades through the purchase of neighbouring parcels, so its vineyard now covers several blocks of the plateau where gravel gives way to clay over an iron-rich subsoil. Merlot leads the planting with Cabernet Franc alongside. The Moueix house, based at Libourne, did more than anyone in the twentieth century to build Pomerol's reputation, taking on small properties and selling their wines into markets that had previously looked only to the Médoc. A dedicated cellar was built for the estate in recent years. Pomerol remains unclassified, so standing depends on site and record.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with duck, beef or truffle dishes, decanting while young; it rewards fifteen years or more in the cellar.
