Description
Château La Louvière Rouge is a Pessac-Léognan from an eighteenth-century estate at Léognan, in the gravel country south of the city of Bordeaux.
The château is a listed building in the neoclassical style of the 1790s, long regarded as one of the handsomest houses in the Graves; the land around it was first cleared by monks. André Lurton bought the run-down property in 1965 and restored both house and vineyard, making it the flagship of a family holding that grew to take in several Pessac-Léognan estates. Lurton was also the driving force behind the creation of the Pessac-Léognan appellation in 1987, which separated the best of the northern Graves from the wider region. The red is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown on the gravel rises typical of the commune, and a white is made as well.
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with lamb, beef or grilled meats, decanting while young.
