Château La Tour Blanche Sauternes, 1er Cru Classé en 1855 375mL 2022

Château La Tour Blanche Sauternes, 1er Cru Classé en 1855 is a botrytised sweet white from Bommes, one of the five communes entitled to the Sauternes appellation.

The estate was ranked a first growth in the 1855 classification of Sauternes, listed immediately after Yquem. Its owner Daniel Iffla, known as Osiris, left the property to the French state early in the twentieth century on the condition that a school of viticulture and oenology be founded there, and the château has trained winemakers ever since alongside making its own wine. Fruit is gathered in successive passes through the vineyard, the tries, taking only berries shrivelled by noble rot, so a harvest can stretch over many weeks. Sémillon leads the blend, with Sauvignon Blanc and a little Muscadelle, and the wine is fermented and matured in barrel.

Serve well chilled, at around 8 degrees, with foie gras, blue cheese or a fruit tart. And both sizes will keep for decades.
