Description
Château La Tour de Mons is a Margaux from Soussans, at the northern end of the appellation.
Soussans lies immediately north of the village of Margaux and shares its appellation, one of five communes entitled to the name. Its gravel banks carry rather more clay than the celebrated croupes to the south, which suits Merlot alongside Cabernet Sauvignon, and Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc round out the blend. The property is a long established Cru Bourgeois, the rank that covers the reliable unclassified estates of the Médoc and which was reorganised into three tiers in 2020. The vineyard is worked and picked plot by plot, and the wine is matured in French oak barrels, a portion of them new, in the traditional Médoc manner.
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast lamb, beef or duck, decanting younger bottles an hour ahead. It is a wine to drink over its first ten to fifteen years rather than one for very long keeping.
