Description
Description
Château Lafleur is a Pomerol from a very small vineyard on the highest part of the plateau, a short walk from Pétrus.
Pomerol has no classification and no official hierarchy; reputations here rest on the wines alone, and Lafleur's stands as high as any in Bordeaux. The vineyard sits where gravel mixes with the iron rich clay that growers call crasse de fer, and it is unusual in the appellation for planting almost as much Cabernet Franc, known locally as bouchet, as Merlot. Such a high proportion of Cabernet Franc is rare in Pomerol and is much remarked upon by those who follow the appellation. The property is farmed by the Guinaudeau family, who also make Les Pensées de Lafleur from the same land. Production is very small, which is why bottles appear so rarely.
A wine for roast beef, game or truffle dishes, served at 16 to 18 degrees. Younger bottles need a long decant and are better left for a decade.
