Château Lafon-Rochet Les Pèlerins de Lafon-Rochet Grand Cru Classé en 1855 2018

Château Lafon-Rochet Les Pèlerins de Lafon-Rochet Grand Cru Classé en 1855 is the second wine of Château Lafon-Rochet, a classified estate in Saint-Estèphe.

Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost of the Médoc communal appellations, cooler than its neighbours and with more clay beneath its gravel, which is why Merlot plays a larger part here than further south. Lafon-Rochet occupies a gravel rise on the Pauillac boundary, between Cos d'Estournel and the vines of Lafite, and its château is easily picked out for its bright yellow rendering. The commune holds only five classified growths, fewer than Pauillac or Margaux, and much of its vineyard belongs to Crus Bourgeois. This label is drawn from the younger vines and the vats not chosen for the grand vin, vinified in the same cellar and matured in French oak with a smaller proportion of new barrels.

Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast lamb, beef or a well aged cheese, decanting an hour ahead.
