Description
Château Lagrange, 3ème Cru G.C.C. en 1855 is a third growth of Saint-Julien and one of the largest classified estates in the Médoc.
The vineyard lies inland from the river in the west of the commune, on gravel rises that allow the estate to pick plot by plot across a wide holding. Its Italianate tower is a landmark of the area. By the 1970s the property had fallen a long way from its classified standing, and its revival dates from 1983, when the Japanese group Suntory bought it and invested heavily in replanting the vineyard and rebuilding the cellars. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend with Merlot and a little Petit Verdot, and the wine is raised in French oak. A second wine, Les Fiefs de Lagrange, takes the lots not selected.
Serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast lamb, beef or duck.
