Château Le Prieuré 2022

Château Le Prieuré is a Right Bank Bordeaux from Saint-Émilion, where Merlot and Cabernet Franc grow on the limestone that shapes the appellation's best sites.

Saint-Émilion sits on the right bank of the Dordogne, a medieval town built above a warren of limestone quarries that now serve as cellars. The plateau and the steep côtes below it are the heart of the appellation, where a thin covering of clay over fractured limestone holds water through dry summers and gives the wines their structure. Merlot dominates most blends here, with Cabernet Franc adding backbone and lift. Unlike the fixed 1855 list of the Médoc, the classification of Saint-Émilion is revised roughly every decade, which keeps its properties working. Holdings are small by Médoc standards, often a handful of hectares farmed plot by plot.

It suits slow-cooked beef, duck or a plate of hard cheeses, and is best decanted and served a little below room temperature.
