Description

Château Léoville Barton, Grand Cru Classé En 1855 is a classified Saint-Julien estate held by the Barton family in one of the longest unbroken family ownerships in Bordeaux.

The Bartons came to Bordeaux from Ireland in the eighteenth century and built one of the city's leading merchant houses. Hugh Barton bought Château Langoa in 1821 and part of the Léoville estate in 1826, and the family has held both without interruption since. Léoville Barton has no château of its own; the fruit is brought to Langoa, where the wine is made and matured. Saint-Julien sits midway down the Médoc on gravel banks that drain freely and warm quickly, and the commune is known for combining the structure of Pauillac with the finer edges of Margaux. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blend, supported by Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc.

Best with lamb, beef or game and decanted when young, it is a wine that rewards patience in the cellar.
