Description
Château Les Ormes De Pez, Cru Bourgeois is a Saint-Estèphe property run by the family behind Château Lynch-Bages.
The name comes from the hamlet of Pez, one of the older settlements in Saint-Estèphe, and from the elms that once stood beside the house. The Cazes family has owned the estate since 1940 and runs it alongside their Pauillac property, with the same team in the vineyard and the cellar. Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost of the Médoc's four great communes, with more clay in its soils than its neighbours to the south, which holds moisture in dry years and gives the wines their firmness. The blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with smaller parts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and it is matured in French oak.
It is a natural match for roast lamb, steak or a winter casserole, and while approachable it will hold for a decade.
