Description
Château Lynch-Bages, 5me G.C.C, 1855 is a Pauillac fifth growth whose following has long outrun its place in the classification.
The name comes from Thomas Lynch, son of an Irish émigré, who ran the property in the eighteenth century, and from the plateau of Bages just south of Pauillac village on which the vines sit. The Cazes family took charge in the 1930s and has owned it since 1939, and across three generations it has become one of the best known names in the Médoc. The vineyard lies on deep gravel close to the Gironde; the blend is led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot and smaller portions of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, matured in French oak. A new gravity-fed cellar, designed by the architect Chien Chung Pei, was completed in 2020.
A classic partner for roast lamb, rib of beef or game, it benefits from decanting when young, and good vintages will keep for two decades or more.
