Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2019

Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a Grenache-led red from the pebbled plateau that gives the estate its name.

Château Mont-Redon takes its name from the plateau it farms in the north west of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where a deep layer of galets roulés lies over red clay and the vines sit high enough to take the full force of the mistral. It is among the largest single holdings in the appellation, close to a hundred hectares, and has been in the hands of the Abeille and Fabre families for generations; the estate also farms in Lirac and the Côtes du Rhône. Grenache leads the red blend, with Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault in support and small quantities of the appellation's rarer varieties. Ageing is split between concrete and large oak foudre, and the wine is held at the property before release.

Warm and savoury with the tannin already settling, it is good with roast lamb, game birds and mushroom dishes; serve at around 17 degrees.
