Description
Château Montrose, 2ème, G.C.C, 1855 is a Saint-Estèphe second growth whose vines run down to the Gironde estuary.
Montrose is a young estate by Médoc standards, cleared from heathland in the early nineteenth century; the name is usually traced to the pink heather that once covered the slope. Its vineyard is a single unbroken block on gravel above the river, and the estuary moderates temperature and helps shield the vines from frost. The property has belonged to Martin and Olivier Bouygues since 2006, and a large rebuilding programme has since made the cellars among the most technically advanced in Bordeaux. Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the blend with Merlot, and the wine has long been counted among the most structured and longest-lived in the Médoc.
It calls for roast or braised red meat and for patience.
