Description
Chateau Musar Red Museum Release is a mature red from the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, held back at the winery and released years after the harvest.
Chateau Musar was founded in 1930 by Gaston Hochar and became known worldwide under his son Serge, who made the wine for more than four decades. The estate draws its fruit from vineyards in the Bekaa Valley, roughly a thousand metres above sea level and separated from the Mediterranean by the Mount Lebanon range, and the wines are made at Ghazir, north of Beirut. The red is built on Cabernet Sauvignon with Cinsault and Carignan, aged in French oak and then held in bottle in the cellars for several years before it is sold. Musar is unusual in releasing its wines late by design rather than by accident, and the Museum Release bottles come from that library stock, cellared at the winery since bottling.
Best served at cellar temperature with slow cooked lamb or a mature hard cheese, and worth decanting.
