Château Pavillon Rouge du Margaux, 2nd Vin 2021

Château Pavillon Rouge du Margaux, 2nd Vin is the second wine of Château Margaux, drawn from the same vineyard as one of the most famous names in Bordeaux.

Château Margaux is a first growth of the 1855 classification, its neo-classical château among the most photographed buildings in the wine world. Pavillon Rouge is no modern invention: the name appears in the estate's records well back into the nineteenth century, and it has been made consistently since the 1970s. The blend leans on Cabernet Sauvignon, with Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, and comes from parcels and vats judged not to belong in the grand vin, a selection that has grown steadily stricter over the decades. It is matured in French oak in the estate's own cellars.

Serve at 17 to 18°C alongside lamb, beef or game birds; it drinks earlier than the grand vin but will hold for fifteen years or more in good vintages.
