Description
Château Rauzan-Ségla 2ème Grand Cru Classé 1855 is a Margaux second growth and one of the oldest continuously named estates in the Médoc.
The Rauzan name goes back to the seventeenth century, when Pierre des Mesures de Rauzan assembled a large holding at Margaux; it was later divided, producing Rauzan-Ségla and Rauzan-Gassies. Ranked immediately behind the first growths in 1855, the estate went through a long quiet period before being bought in 1994 by the Wertheimer family, owners of Chanel, since when the vineyard has been drained and replanted and a new cellar built. The wine is Cabernet Sauvignon led, with Merlot, grown on the fine gravel around Margaux village itself, hand harvested and matured in French oak barrels, a good proportion of them new.
Serve at 17 to 18°C with roast lamb, beef or game birds; decant an hour or two ahead, and expect the best vintages to keep for twenty years or more.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
