Château Suduiraut Lions de Suduiraut Sauternes 375mL 2020

Château Suduiraut Lions de Suduiraut Sauternes is the second wine of one of the appellation's First Growths, drawn from the same vineyards at Preignac.

Suduiraut lies at Preignac, adjoining the plateau of Yquem, and was ranked Premier Cru Classé in 1855. Lions de Suduiraut takes its name from the stone lions that flank the château's gates, and is made from lots not selected for the grand vin, generally from the younger vines. The grapes are Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, picked by hand in successive passes as botrytis cinerea spreads through the vineyard in the autumn mists that rise off the Ciron. It gives a lighter and more immediate account of Sauternes than the grand vin, made for drinking rather than long keeping.

Serve well chilled, at around 8 degrees, with blue cheese, fruit desserts or a foie gras terrine; a good size for a small table and for a wine best drunk in its youth.
