Description
Château Trotte Vieille, 1st Grand Cru B Classé is a Saint-Émilion grown on the limestone plateau east of the town.
Trottevieille sits on a well drained cap of limestone near Château Pavie Macquin, and has been ranked among the Premiers Grands Crus Classés of Saint-Émilion since the classification was created in 1955. The property belongs to the Castéja family, of the Bordeaux merchant house Borie-Manoux. Its best known feature is a small parcel of very old Cabernet Franc growing on its own roots, never grafted onto American rootstock, which is picked and vinified separately. Cabernet Franc and Merlot share the vineyard, with a little Cabernet Sauvignon, and the wine is fermented in small vats and matured in oak barrels.
Decant an hour before serving, at around 17 degrees, with roast lamb, beef or game; the wine repays a decade in the cellar and will keep well beyond that in good conditions.
