Château Vieux Château Certan 2022

Château Vieux Château Certan is a Pomerol from the plateau at the centre of the appellation, a near neighbour of Pétrus.

Vieux Château Certan, known to its followers as VCC, lies on the Pomerol plateau on a mix of gravel, clay and sand, and has belonged to the Belgian Thienpont family since 1924. The name is thought to come from sertan, an old word for waste ground, and the château is among the oldest buildings in the commune. Unusually for Pomerol, Cabernet Franc plays a substantial part in the blend alongside Merlot, with a little Cabernet Sauvignon, which is why the estate is often described as the most Médoc like of the great Pomerols. Fruit is picked and sorted by hand and the wine is matured in French oak barrels.

Decant an hour or two ahead and serve with roast beef, lamb or game; it is generally at its best from about twelve years and will keep for decades.
