Description
Chaume Arnaud Vinsobres is the estate's home cru, an organically farmed red from the highest of the southern Rhone crus.
Vinsobres was promoted from Cotes du Rhone Villages to full cru status in the mid 2000s and is the northernmost cru of the southern Rhone, sitting on slopes and terraces that climb to around four hundred metres in the Drome Provencale. The altitude, the limestone and clay soils and the steady mistral give wines with more freshness and grip than the warmer appellations to the south, and the rules require a majority of Grenache with a substantial proportion of Syrah or Mourvedre alongside it. This is Valerie Chaume and Philippe Arnaud's home ground, farmed organically, with old Grenache vines at the heart of the blend and Syrah bringing pepper and a tighter tannic frame. Elevage is unhurried and largely in tank and older wood.
Structured and long, it will keep and suits slow cooked lamb shoulder, game and aged cheese; serve at around 17 degrees.
