Clos du Caillou Châteauneuf-du-Pape La Réserve 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Clos du Caillou La Réserve is the estate's rare top red, drawn from its oldest Grenache and released only in the best years, here in magnum.

La Réserve comes from the oldest Grenache on the Clos du Caillou property at Courthézon, vines that in some parcels approach a century in age. Yields at that age are minute and the fruit is picked and sorted by hand before a long, gentle fermentation in concrete. Ageing follows in large old wood and concrete rather than new barriques, in keeping with the domaine's conviction that Grenache of this quality needs no oak flavouring, and the wine is bottled with minimal handling. The estate is farmed organically. Made in tiny quantity and only in vintages that justify it, this is a Châteauneuf built for the long term, and the magnum slows its development further.

Full-bodied, deep and firmly structured, it needs time and then decanting, and suits game, beef and truffled dishes; serve at around 17 degrees.
