Clos Figueras Font de la Figuera 2020

Clos Figueras Font de la Figuera is the estate's principal Priorat red, joining old vine Garnacha and Cariñena with smaller amounts of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The Clos Figueras estate lies at Gratallops, in the heart of Priorat, on the terraced llicorella slate that gives the appellation its character. Priorat's modern reputation dates only to the late 1980s, when a handful of growers recognised what its ancient bush vines and slate soils could do; Clos Figueras arrived in the following decade, founded by the British wine merchant Christopher Cannan. Font de la Figuera sits below the flagship in the range but comes from the same steep terraces. Garnacha and Cariñena provide the backbone, with a smaller share of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, and the wine is matured in French oak before bottling.

A short decant helps; serve at 16 to 18 degrees with lamb, grilled meats or firm cheeses.
