Clos Larrouyat Jurançon Moelleux Phoenix 500ml 2021

Clos Larrouyat Jurançon Moelleux Phoenix is a sweet white made entirely from Petit Manseng picked in November, in a 500ml bottle.

Jurançon lies in the foothills of the Pyrenees south of Pau, where the drying southerly foehn wind allows growers to leave Petit Manseng on the vine deep into autumn. The grapes shrivel on the vine, a process known as passerillage, concentrating sugar and acid without relying on botrytis, and it is this that makes the region's moelleux wines what they are. Clos Larrouyat is the small domaine of Julien Salharang, one of the newer names in the appellation. The Phoenix cuvée is 100 per cent Petit Manseng, a thick-skinned variety that holds its acidity through late harvest. The fruit was picked in November, fermented naturally and aged for eight months in used barrels, so the sweetness is framed by the variety's characteristic cut rather than by oak.

Drinking well now and capable of fifteen years or more; serve at 8–10°C with blue cheese, foie gras or a citrus tart.
