Description
Credaro 1000 Crowns Chardonnay is the family's flagship white, from their best Margaret River parcels.
The name records the price the Credaro brothers paid the Western Australian government for their first land in the 1920s: two hundred and fifty pounds, the equivalent of a thousand crowns, on condition they keep cutting sleepers and clear the ground for farming. Cesare Credaro had arrived from northern Italy in 1922 and planted Fragola vines at Carbunup; four generations later the family works seven vineyard sites across the region. Margaret River's maritime climate gives Chardonnay a long, even ripening season.
Serve at 12 degrees with roast chicken, rich fish or a soft cheese. It develops over eight years.
