Description

Croix & Courbet Côtes du Jura Trousseau comes from just 0.27 hectares of 40-year-old vines at Lavigny, made without added sulphur.

Trousseau is the more structured of the Jura's two main red varieties, giving pale but firmly scented wine when grown on the right soils. This parcel lies in the lieu-dit En Parelle, south of Château-Chalon, on clay and limestone covered in Bathonian limestone scree known locally as groise, with a westerly exposure. David Croix and Damien Courbet fully destem their red grapes, ferment with indigenous yeasts and use no new oak, aiming for transparency rather than weight. This bottling was made without the aid of sulphur, and the result is a clean, focused Jura rouge with red cherry and almond character, a graceful texture and a fine weave of tannin held together by bright acidity.

Drink over the next five years, lightly chilled at 14-16C, with roast chicken, Comté or a mushroom tart.
