Description

Di Majo Norante Apianae is a sweet Molise Moscato made by the passito method, with the fruit dried on the vine before picking.

Molise is one of Italy's smallest and least exported wine regions, sitting between Abruzzo and Puglia on the Adriatic coast, and Di Majo Norante has been its most visible producer for decades. Apianae has its own denomination, Moscato Reale del Molise, and takes its name from the Latin api, for the bees drawn to the ripening Moscato Reale grapes; the style is recorded from Roman times. Alessio Di Majo grows the fruit on the low-lying sandy clays of the Camarda district. The grapes are left to shrivel on the vine, then hand-harvested and cold-macerated to draw out aromatics before pressing to tank for fermentation. The wine is raised in stainless steel for twelve months, which keeps the sweetness clean and unmarked by oak.

A sweet wine with the acidity to hold for many years in bottle. Serve at 8-10°C in small glasses with almond biscotti, blue cheese or a simple fruit tart.
