Description
Di Majo Norante Molí Rosso is a blend of 80% Montepulciano and 20% Aglianico from Molise, one of Italy's smallest wine regions.
Molise sits between Abruzzo to the north and Campania to the south, mountainous and thinly populated, and its wines are little seen outside Italy. Alessio Di Majo is the region's leading grower and has a strong reputation at home for characterful regional bottlings. The fruit here is grown organically on the estate's sloping Ramitello vineyard. Montepulciano supplies the black plum fruit and the flesh, while Aglianico brings a more brooding, savoury, olive-inflected edge and firms up the structure. Acidity holds the sun-ripened fruit in balance and the tannins are fine-grained and persistent rather than heavy, which keeps the wine at a medium weight.
Drink now and over the next four years. Serve at 16-18°C with slow-cooked lamb shoulder, sausages with lentils or a baked pasta.
