Description
Di Majo Norante Molí Rosso is an organically farmed Montepulciano and Aglianico red from the Ramitello vineyard in Molise.
Molise sits between Abruzzo to the north and Puglia and Campania to the south, and borrows its grape palette from both, which is why Montepulciano and Aglianico share the vineyards here with whites such as Falanghina. Di Majo Norante is the region's best-known estate and has done most to establish its reputation abroad, farming vineyards on the lower slopes of sand and clay that run down from the Apennines towards the Adriatic. For this red Alessio Di Majo blends organically grown Montepulciano, 80 per cent, with Aglianico, 20 per cent, cropped from the sloping Ramitello vineyard overlooking the sea. The two varieties are well matched: Montepulciano brings dark berry fruitiness and flesh, Aglianico adds black olive tapenade, Christmas spice and earthy intensity. Zippy acidity runs through the sun-touched fruit and a pinch of fine-grained tannin holds the finish together.
Drink now and over the next three years. Serve at 16-18°C with woodfired pizza, barbecued chops or a meaty ragù.
