Description
Di Majo Norante Molí Rosso is an organically grown Montepulciano and Aglianico blend from Molise, on Italy's central Adriatic coast.
Molise is one of Italy's smaller and least known wine regions, and Di Majo Norante has done more than anyone to give it a voice. Alessio Di Majo was described by Bastianich and Lynch in Vino Italiano as the lone wolf of Molise, the first here to take a rigorous approach to yields and to bring in advice from oenologists outside the region. The estate's vineyards sit on the lower slopes of sand and clay that fall from the Apennines towards the Adriatic. Molise borrows its grape palette from Abruzzo to the north and Puglia and Campania to the south, so Falanghina sits alongside Montepulciano and Aglianico. This red blends organically farmed Montepulciano, 80 per cent, with Aglianico, 20 per cent, cropped from the sloping Ramitello vineyard overlooking the sea, combining Montepulciano's dark berry fruit with Aglianico's black olive and earthy spice.
Drink now and over the next three or four years. Serve at 16-18°C with woodfired pizza, barbecued lamb chops or a meaty ragù.
