Description
Domain Lamy-Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Rouge is a red Burgundy from a premier cru far better known for its white wines.
Chassagne-Montrachet is celebrated for Chardonnay, but red wine has a long history in the village and once accounted for the greater part of its production. Morgeot is the largest premier cru climat in Chassagne, a broad sweep of vineyard on the southern side of the village with deeper, clay rich soils over limestone that suit Pinot Noir as well as they suit Chardonnay. Reds from here are firmer and more structured than those of neighbouring Santenay or Saint-Aubin. The domaine is based in Chassagne-Montrachet itself and farms parcels across the village and its neighbours, with the wine fermented and then aged in oak barrel in the traditional Cote de Beaune manner.
Give it a few years in bottle and serve at around 15 degrees with game birds, coq au vin or roast pork.
