Description
Alain Graillot's white Crozes-Hermitage is a Marsanne-led blend from the alluvial soils of Pont-de-l'Isère.
White Crozes-Hermitage makes up a small fraction of the appellation and is built from Marsanne and Roussanne; here the split is 80% Marsanne to 20% Roussanne. The fruit comes from a 2.7-hectare plot on deep alluvial soils in the southern sector at Pont-de-l'Isère, where the vines are now around 40 years old. The grapes are pressed as bunches and fermented with indigenous yeasts in a mix of one-year-old 600-litre demi-muids and stainless steel. Because the soils and the old vines give generous, rich fruit, particularly from the Marsanne, Maxime Graillot blocks malolactic conversion to hold on to freshness, and bottles under screwcap for the same reason. The balance of structure and energy shifts between vintages, but the intent is consistent.
Good on release and likely to gain honeyed richness over three to five years; serve at 10–12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or soft cheeses.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
