Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Blagny 1.5L MAGNUM 2022

This magnum of Meursault-Blagny comes from La Pièce Sous le Bois, a stony vineyard just below the forest at the top of the slope.

Blagny is a tiny hamlet and appellation straddling the boundary of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, sitting above the Premier Cru vineyards of both. Reds made there are labelled Blagny, while the whites take the name of Meursault or Puligny depending on which commune the vineyard falls in. Antoine Jobard's parcel covers half a hectare in La Pièce Sous le Bois, at the very top of the slope on stony ground at 300 to 350 metres, just below the tree line. It is a cool place, especially at night, though it catches plenty of sun during the day, and it is often the first white vineyard the domaine picks. The half-hectare is split between very old vines planted in 1957 and a section replanted in 2009. The wine is raised in the domaine's restrained style, with long lees ageing and little new oak, and the elevation shows in its linear, citrus-toned shape. This is the 1.5-litre magnum, which matures more slowly than the standard bottle.

Well suited to long cellaring in this format, or to a table of six or eight. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled white fish, chicken with tarragon or a fresh goat's cheese.
