Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières 2019

Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières comes from a 0.7-hectare parcel beside the vineyard's landmark cabotte, planted to a 1960s massale selection.

Genevrières is one of the trio of premier crus on the Puligny side of Meursault, alongside Perrières and Charmes, and is usually the most floral and finely built of them. The Jobard parcel lies next to the well-known Genevrières cabotte, the old workers' cottage in Genevrières Dessous, and the vines are 35 years old. Year in and year out this is a wine of depth, purity and intensity, which Antoine Jobard attributes largely to his plant material, a massale selection planted in the 1960s. As he puts it, the vines always give well-formed berries with no deterioration and neither under- nor over-ripe fruit, and the balance and pH hold up even in drier, warmer seasons. Ageing is in predominantly older barrels, in keeping with the reductive, slow-developing house style.

Needs five years and will run for fifteen or more. Serve at 10-12°C with roast bream, chicken in cream sauce or a hard alpine cheese.
