Domaine Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Genevrières comes from a parcel beside the vineyard's landmark stone cabotte, planted with a mass selection made in the 1960s.

Genevrières sits in the heart of the Meursault premier cru band, between Charmes and Perrières, and is often the most overtly perfumed of the three. Jobard's 0.7-hectare parcel of 35-year-old vines lies in Genevrières Dessous, next to the cabotte, the little stone workers' hut that gives the vineyard its most recognisable landmark. He attributes the purity and intensity of the wine to his plant material, a mass selection taken in the 1960s, noting that the berries here are always well formed, never under- or over-ripe, with balanced pH and high natural acidity. Winemaking is conservative and slow, with whole-bunch pressing, indigenous-yeast fermentation and a long élevage in barrel with modest new wood. The crop was down 70 per cent, so allocations are smaller than usual.

Best given five years and good for fifteen or more. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, scallops or a rich fish pie.
