Description

Domaine Antoine Jobard Pommard is a red from one of Meursault's most respected white wine houses, drawn mostly from Les Petits Noizons above the premier cru line.

Pommard has a reputation for firm, structured Pinot Noir, but the wine here is deliberately lighter on its feet. The bulk comes from Les Petits Noizons, a south-east-facing site on the hill above the premier cru band, with a second parcel in the climat of Rue au Porc, below the village beside the D974. The holdings are modest and the vines average around fifty years. Antoine Jobard is best known for Meursault, and the reds follow the same thinking: brightness, perfume and drinkability over extraction. As he puts it, it is the kind of Burgundy he wants to drink. The grapes are entirely destemmed and fermented with indigenous yeasts, with roughly ten days on skins, and the wine is aged twelve months in barrel with only 20 per cent new wood.

Open early and holding well for six to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, duck breast or a mushroom and thyme tart.
