Description
Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas is the flagship red of one of the Northern Rhône's most revered estates, made entirely from Syrah grown on the steep granite slopes above the village of Cornas.
The Cornas appellation sits on the west bank of the Rhône opposite Valence, its sun-trapped, terraced hillsides long recognised for producing some of the region's darkest, most powerful expressions of Syrah. Domaine Auguste Clape has been at the centre of the appellation's story since Auguste Clape began bottling under his own name in the 1950s, and the estate is widely credited with preserving Cornas's identity through decades when the appellation was largely overlooked. Now guided by son Pierre-Marie and grandson Olivier, the domaine continues to farm old vines on the steepest terraces by hand, following the traditional, minimal-intervention winemaking passed down through three generations.
A benchmark Cornas built on power and precision, well suited to roasted and slow-cooked meats and worth cellaring.
