Domaine Camille Thiriet Bourgogne Blanc En La Place 2023

En La Place is Camille Thiriet's domaine Bourgogne Blanc, from sixty-year-old vines at La Sablière between Corgoloin and Comblanchien.

Camille Thiriet and her husband Blair Pethel set up in Comblanchien at the southern end of the Côte de Nuits, working with small parcels in the villages around them. White wine is a minor part of the range, and this is the first from their own vines. La Sablière lies on the flatter ground between Corgoloin and Comblanchien, an area better known for its quarries than its vineyards, but the vines here are sixty years old and the fruit is correspondingly concentrated. The wine was raised in just two barrels — one old, the other a Damy first used in 2021 — which keeps the oak influence slight. What comes out is pure and pulpy, with pear, honey and nut characters and a mouth-watering freshness that carries the finish.

Drink over the next three or four years. Serve at 10 to 12°C with roast chicken, grilled fish or a mild washed-rind cheese.
