Description
En La Place is Camille Thiriet's estate Bourgogne Rouge, grown on the sandy clay of the La Sablière vineyard from vines around 90 years old.
Regional Burgundy is usually made from young vines on flat ground, which is what makes a parcel of this age unusual at the price. The vineyard's name refers to its sandy clay soils, and that lighter ground is a good part of the reason for the wine's lifted perfume of summer fruits and red flowers. Camille Thiriet works from Comblanchien in the Côte de Nuits, making a small range of domaine and négociant wines in a fresh, transparent style. This cuvée ferments in concrete with about half whole bunches layered at the bottom of the tank, so that punchdowns and pumpovers leave the whole berries intact. The result is elegant and pure-fruited, with a fine, lacy structure and a crunchy finish.
Drink now and over the next six years, with roast chicken, charcuterie or grilled salmon, at 16°C.
