Description
Domaine Camille Thiriet Bourgogne Rouge Les Chagniots comes from a small parcel of 60-year-old vines at Corgoloin, directly below the Clos des Langres.
Corgoloin marks the southern end of the Côte de Nuits, where the slope runs out towards the quarries and much of the land is classified only at Bourgogne level — which makes it a good place to find old vines. Camille Thiriet’s parcel sits under Domaine d’Ardhuy’s Clos des Langres and carries vines of around 60 years. The name Chagniots is usually explained as a reference to small oak trees, though in the local patois Chaignots denotes iron-rich ground, which may be the better reading given the reddish, iron-oxide soils here. This was the first release from the site. The wine fermented with 40 per cent whole bunches, an approach that suits fruit of this age and keeps the wine perfumed rather than weighty.
Drinking well now and over the next four or five years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
