Description
Domaine Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge Clos Magny is a whole-bunch Pinot Noir from a high, stony parcel at the top of the slope in Corgoloin.
Corgoloin sits at the southern limit of the Côte de Nuits, where the appellation reverts to Côte de Nuits-Villages rather than a village name of its own. Thiriet’s holding is a 0.8-hectare plot within the larger Le Clos de Magny climat, at 350 metres and on very rocky ground. The forest above shades part of the vineyard for much of the day, which Camille Thiriet regards as an advantage in warm years, and a mass of large boulders sits just beneath the surface. The site gives tiny berries in small, loose bunches, and it is that fruit character that allows the wine to be fermented with 100 per cent whole bunches without the stems taking over. The wine that follows is firm and savoury, with the stony imprint of the site running through it.
Best given two to four years and good for a decade. Serve at 16-18°C with roast quail, duck liver pâté or braised beef cheek.
