Domaine Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge Cuvée Deslandes 2022

Domaine Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge Cuvée Deslandes comes from ninety-year-old Pinot Noir high on the slope above Comblanchien.

Côte de Nuits-Villages covers the two ends of the Côte de Nuits, and the southern half — Comblanchien and Corgoloin — is as well known for its marble quarries as for its vines. The upper slopes here hold hard limestone and thin soils that suit Pinot Noir, and old plantings still survive in pockets. Camille and John Thiriet set up their domaine in the village in 2016 and work a patchwork of small parcels across the Côte. The fruit for this wine comes from the lieu-dit Le Creux de Sabon, which Camille bottles as Cuvée Deslandes in honour of an early benefactor. It was vinified with whole bunches throughout, and a portion was raised in stainless steel rather than barrel to keep the floral aromatics of the site intact.

Drinking well now and set to improve over the next six to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a washed-rind cheese.
