Domaine Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge La Montagne 2022

Domaine Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits-Villages La Montagne comes from a high, estate-owned parcel at 280 metres on the Corgoloin-Ladoix border.

Côte de Nuits-Villages gathers the vineyards at either end of the Côte de Nuits, and the southern half of the appellation runs through Comblanchien, Corgoloin and Prissey, better known for its quarries than its wine. Camille Thiriet and Matt Chittick set up their small domaine and négoce here, and La Montagne is one of their own holdings, not to be confused with the Aux Montagnes bottling made under the merchant label. The parcel lies below Clos Magny and faces due east, on light soils dominated by sandy clay, high enough to keep the harvest late and the acidity intact. In Camille’s words the wine combines the freshness and purity of Savigny with a little more depth and structure of the Côte de Nuits. It is a finer, more perfumed style with a cooler, slightly firmer frame than the Magny.

Approachable now but likely to gain from five or six years in bottle. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom risotto or a dish of braised pork.
