Description
Domaine Camille Thiriet's La Robignotte is a 0.6-hectare monopole above the Corgoloin cemetery, the only vineyard in the area on a rare outcrop of blue marl.
Côte de Nuits-Villages takes in the communes at either end of the Côte de Nuits, Corgoloin and Comblanchien among them, where good sites can outrun the modest appellation name. La Robignotte is named for its owner in Napoleonic times and was long the jewel of Gilles Jourdan's holdings; Camille Thiriet has since taken it on. Its distinction is that outcrop of blue marl, unique in the district, which gives the wines unusual longevity — Thiriet has tasted bottles from 1957 and 1979 with the previous owner and rated them highly. The vines average 60 years old. Her first vintage here fermented with 40 per cent whole bunches. This is the most serious and complex wine she makes: compact, with deep dark cherry fruit, roasted brown spice and fine, powdery tannins, and it needs time to unwind.
Give it three to five years and expect a decade or more in total. Serve with roast beef, game or a mushroom pie at 16–18°C.
