Domaine Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge La Robignotte 2023

Domaine Camille Thiriet Côte de Nuits-Villages Rouge La Robignotte is a 0.6-hectare monopole above the Corgoloin cemetery, on the only outcrop of blue marl in the district.

The vineyard takes its name from the man who owned it in Napoleonic times and was previously the leading wine in Gilles Jourdan’s range before Camille Thiriet took it on. Its distinguishing feature is that rare seam of blue marl, a cool, water-retentive soil that in this corner of the Côte de Nuits belongs to no other site and is credited with the unusual longevity of the wines. Thiriet has tasted bottles from 1957 and 1979 with the previous owner and cites them as the reason she pursued the parcel. The vines average sixty years and the inaugural vintage under her name fermented with 40 per cent whole bunches. This is the most serious and most complex wine in the range: compact, with deep dark-cherry fruit, roasted spice from the stems and fine, powdery tannins.

Give it three to five years and expect it to hold for fifteen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast venison, coq au vin or aged hard cheeses.
