Domaine Chapelle La Chapelle Hermitage Rouge 2021

Domaine de la Chapelle La Chapelle Hermitage Rouge is a 100% Syrah from the legendary hill of Hermitage in the Northern Rhône. Its name recalls the knight Gaspard de Sterimberg, who settled on the hill in the 13th century and built the Saint Christophe chapel, giving rise to the story behind the Hermitage name. Today, La Chapelle remains one of the appellation’s historic benchmark wines.

The wine comes from 40- to 100-year-old vines on the steep western slopes of Hermitage, drawing on several important parcels including Les Bessards, Varogne, Le Méal and Rocoules. Granite soils in Les Bessards and Varogne bring structure and intensity, while the limestone and pebble-strewn terraces of Le Méal and Rocoules contribute a broader, more supple expression of Syrah. The organically grown grapes are harvested and sorted by hand, fermented with indigenous Northern Rhône yeasts and gently extracted before ageing for 12 months in French oak and concrete eggs.

Decant for around two hours and serve at 16 to 18 degrees with roast lamb, beef, game or other richly flavoured meat dishes.
